Wishful Thinking

In rummaging through my cupboards yesterday to appropriately plate the olives, grapes, and cheese before my fellow Prince go-ers arrived for cocktail hour, I came across every serving plate and platter of every shape and size imaginable. I will admit that part of this is because I have my own set of china, and part of it is because I love to entertain; however, I would like to let it be known that I am still quite selfishly without. If I had a kitchen fairy godmother, and she would grant me 5 wishes, I would beg her to bring me the following items:

A Silicon Mat from SilPat, a must-have baking mat for every need from chocolate chip cookies to French pastry.

A Mandolin from NorPro V Slice because I didn’t go to culinary school and my slicing skills would have me Chopped in no time.

A double timer for those times I can't keep two things straight.

A Tart Pan from Crate & Barrel because spring has finally and officially ‘sprung’ and I love fruit tarts.

And finally, Kid's Posable Silicone Kitchen Utensils from Shop Foster for the sole purpose of keeping me entertained.

What sort of diary should I like mine to be? Something loose-knit and yet not slovenly, so elastic that it will embrace anything, solemn, slight or beautiful, that comes into my mind. I should like it to resemble some deep old desk or capacious hold-all, in which one flings a mass of odds and ends without looking them through. I should like to come back after a year or two, and find that the collection had sorted itself and refined itself and coalesced, as such deposits so mysteriously do, into a mould, transparent enough to reflect the light of our life, and yet steady, tranquil compounds with the aloofness of a work of art. The main requisite, I think, on reading my old volumes, is not to play the part of a censor, but to write as the mood comes or of anything whatever; since I was curious to find how I went for things put in haphazard, and found the significance to lie where I never saw it at the time. I grew up watching cooking shows instead of cartoons. I get whisks and pastry brushes in my Christmas stocking instead of traditional trinkets. My favorite thing to do is frost a cupcake. My undergraduate degree was in Theatrical Costume Design, which means I take pride in how I am presented. I own monogrammed wine glasses, and my own set of Italian Vietri China. I collect English tea cups, and love a good cucumber sandwhich. I shop at J.Crew and Banana Republic and I have traveled to over %9 of the world. This blog began as a travel log while I was abroad, however like most things in life-- plans are subject to change, so here's to good food and good fashion!
