She's A Brick House

As many of you know, I was a bridesmaid to my bathroom sharing college roommate this past weekend; and in case any of you had doubts, she was perhaps the most stunning bride ever! Okay, I know everyone says that about their best friend, sister, or daughter—but what set Tia apart was her incredibly calm nature. I think I only heard her second guess two things throughout the festivities: The first being that perhaps our toenail polish was too dark and the second being the placement of her side bun. (Neither of which she fretted over for more than 30-45 seconds…)

I can only hope that when I am a real bride, and not just playing one on stage, I will have everything so well organized and neatly laid out that I too can worry about what some might deem to be trivial things. My darling, you are an inspiration to all women and future brides out there to remain calm and carry on… and to maybe eat a Philly Cheese Steak.

What sort of diary should I like mine to be? Something loose-knit and yet not slovenly, so elastic that it will embrace anything, solemn, slight or beautiful, that comes into my mind. I should like it to resemble some deep old desk or capacious hold-all, in which one flings a mass of odds and ends without looking them through. I should like to come back after a year or two, and find that the collection had sorted itself and refined itself and coalesced, as such deposits so mysteriously do, into a mould, transparent enough to reflect the light of our life, and yet steady, tranquil compounds with the aloofness of a work of art. I grew up watching cooking shows instead of cartoons. I get whisks and pastry brushes in my Christmas stocking instead of traditional trinkets. My favorite thing to do is frost a cupcake. My undergraduate degree was in Theatrical Costume Design, which means I take pride in how I am presented. I own monogrammed wine glasses, and my own set of Italian Vietri China. I collect English tea cups, and love a good cucumber sandwhich. I shop at J.Crew and Banana Republic and I have traveled to over %9 of the world. This blog began as a travel log while I was abroad, however like most things in life-- plans are subject to change, so here's to good food and good fashion!
